as i talked about in class before, i have a largely print based history of design work. a lot of what i want to work on this term is pushing the medium of print (via vinyl and possibly photography) beyond how it is normally thought of by others and beyond what i normally use the medium for.
over the past few weeks i have been brainstorming on the best way to do this and at this point i have come up with a notebook full of post-it ideas that could all be a starting place for me. i like the sound of some of these ideas, but still have yet to find a reason for their construction aside from the fact that they just sound like fun projects to attempt. not that there is anything wrong with just making something because it sound interesting, but if at all possible, i would like to have a little something more to say when my work is done.
but for now, here is the direction in which my thoughts have been progressing over the past week or so....
-combine cut vinyl with sculpture: living room furniture popping out of floor / walls (sinking?) with vinyl cut figures (people? animals?) on furniture.
-working with the contrast between vinyland photography: try and somehow fuse a long series of images with print images and vinyl. or vinyl text flowing into / around print images.
-mirror images of vinyl and print photography. or shadows of photographs in vinyl (spreading out across the floor?)
-cityscape cut out of vinyl (partial photography?) with vinyl text connecting different cities skylines (or text painted from vinyl stencil)
-vinyl sculpture: vinyl on wall coming out onto a 3d surface / floor.
that is the blob of half worked out ideas i have started thinking about. hopefully in the next week i will have it narrowed down. but for now, thats about it.
comments / suggestions greatly appreciated.
thanks.
